VR: THE REAL STORY

It’s amazing to see how far we have advanced in the realm of technology, interactivity and entertainment. The VR component is a fascinating platform to engross a narrative that takes a viewer to an entirely unique experience. I watched several different VR stories, some where animated and rendered in a 3D environment, others were set in real-world surroundings and engaged the user like a rollercoaster ride. We see stories as events that had either occurred in the real world or spark the imagination to create a fantasy world. As I viewed through the VR goggles, I found myself in both instances, a setting totally immersed in a fantasy captured in real time. The feeling is quite invigorating and is only evolving exponentially as technology starts to blend digital components with a real-world environment in the next step of VR, otherwise known as Augmented Reality. Does anyone remember JAWS 10 from Back to The Future 3? The Narratives were simple enough, but when one is engaged, the 360 view feels so natural and inviting that it makes you feel part of the scene, as though you are there interacting with the objects, characters and environment. Once again, adding another layer to the adventure, invoking emotions, connecting to the events unfolding. It won’t be long before we see a movie in a self-contained hologram theatre full of photons, generating a fully immersed, engaging cinematic experience, and we are right in the middle of the action. Now that would be something.
